19 Foods That You Eat May Be Killing You – Are You Eating Cancer?

Smoked Meats

smoking

While eating smoked barbecue ribs and chicken may be fingered lickin good, the meats are loaded with carcinogens. The smoking process creates “smoke tar” which gets absorbed in to the meats and then in turn your body absorbs it when you consume the food. According to research, this is the same “smoke tar” that is found in tobacco, a known carcinogen which causes cancer.

Processed Foods

processed food cancer

Processed lunch meats, sausages, bacon, and hot dogs can be harmful to your health. Many food manufacturers use chemicals, preservatives, and a high level of sodium during their food process. Many research studies shows a correlation between the consumption of processed meats and cancer. One study concluded that eating one hot a day increases the risk of colon cancer by 18 percent! Many gynecologists recommend women avoid eating processed meats during their pregnancy, fearing they will pass on these carcinogens to their fetus.

Highly Processed/Refined White Flour

highly processed and refined white flour cancer

In order to disguise the process, food manufacturers labels their products as “refined white flour” rather than “bleached flour”, for consumers wouldn’t want to eat a bleached product. Studies have shown that traces of chemical residues remain in flour after the bleaching process. Highly processed flour also increases the carb count. It has been long known that a high carb diet can increase blood sugar and insulin levels, which cancer cells thrive on.

Soy

Soy cancer

Soy contains am estrogen-like compound that can throw a woman’s body out of wack. A soy diet may trigger a gene which causes breast cancer, according to research studies. Another study showed that some chemicals used in soy processing can double the risk of cancer.

Microwave Popcorn

Popcorn 3 liver cancer

It’s not the popcorn that’s the culprit, but it the chemicals that are lined in microwave popcorn bags. Many microwave popcorn bags are lined with PFOA, the same toxin found in Teflon. One study concluded PFOA is linked to infertility in women. PFOA is also linked to an increased risk of kidney, testicular, bladder, and kidney cancer. In addition, the sweet smelling artificial butter really contains a harmful chemical that can damage the lungs if inhaled. There are many reported cases of people dying from “popcorn lung.”

Hydrogenated Oils

reduces cholesterol apple cider vinegar

Hydrogenated oils are rich in trans fats, which is a cancer-causing agent. The FDA said that trans fats are not safe for human consumption. Trans fats are linked to a higher incident rate of cancer, as well immune system deficiencies, and heart disease. There is no safe amount of trans fats in your diet. Look to alternative non-trans fat oils. Check the ingredients of your coffee creamer. You may be shocked!

Potato Chips and French Fries

French fries cancer

Many low cost french fries are made with hydrogenated vegetable oil, which contains trans fats. As discussed before, trans fats is a cancer-causing agent. In addition, when the raw french fries are immersed in a vat of boiling oil, the by-product of this process creates a chemical compound called acrylamide. According to one report, acrylamide is a carcinogen that has also been detected in cigarette smoke. Acrylamide has been linked to a increased risk of cancer.

The process of creating a potato chip uses the same deep frying process and creates acrylamide compound as a by-product. Try baked potato chips next time.

Refined Sugars

refined sugars

As far back as 1931, studies have found that cancer cells have a sweet tooth. Cancerous tumors rely on sugar to increase in size and production. Refined sugar is a great fuel source for cancer cells to thrive. High fructose corn syrup is part of the refined sugar and GMO family tree and is found in 1000’s of consumer foods.

Canned Tomatoes

cancer Canned tomatoes

The linings of canned fruit and vegetable is usually made with BPA resins, a chemical compound. FDA research has determined that BPA can alter brain chemistry in rats. Another study showed that exposure to BPA can effect the behavior, prostate gland, and brain of fetuses. The FDA is looking to eliminate BPA from all canned food products, including tomatoes. Since tomatoes are very acidic, it can cause a faster leeching of BPA from the can lining into the tomatoes.

Farm Raised Fish

cancer farm raised fish

There can be a darker side of fish, which was always known as a healthy source of protein and good Omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon can be caught in the wild or it can be farmed.

Farmed salmon, cod, and tilapia live in crowded cages. Farmed salmon have 30 times more sea lice than their “wild” salmon counterparts, according to research reports. Farmed fish are fed antibiotics and exposed to pesticides, PCBs, flame retardants and other cancer causing agents. Another study found farmed fish contains 16 times more carcinogens than wild fish. Eat fish caught in the wild!

Non-Organic Fruit

cancer non organic foods

Non-organic fruits are sprayed with harmful pesticides including atrazine as well as high nitrogen fertilizers. While the weed killer atrazine was banned by the Eu in 2004, it is still being used in the U.S. Studies have found that pregnant women who consumed this chemical had babies with reduced body weight. Non-organic foods are subjected to hormones and chemicals to make fruits grow larger. Tests have shown that pesticide residues remain on 90 percent of all apples, grapes, strawberries, and oranges tested. Washing with water does little to remove all the residue. In 2011, the EPA released its finding from an independent panel and reported that atrazine had “suggestive evidence of carcinogenic potential for ovarian cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, hairy-cell leukemia, and thyroid cancer.” Eat organic!

Charred Meats

cancer charred food

While the smell of the summertime barbecue is mouth watering, avoid high heats that char your favorite meats. Grilling and cooking seafood, meats, and poultry foods at high heat has been known to produce cancer-causing Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Slowly cook your meats to eliminate these carcinogens.

Artificial Sweeteners

artificial sweeteners cancer

Studies have shown that many artificial sweeteners such as aspartame end up breaking down in your body through digestion into a compound called DKP. DKP is a toxin that produces chemicals, which have been linked to malignant brain tumors. Stick to organic unrefined sugar.

Alcohol

cancer alcohol

While not widely publicized, alcohol is the second leading cause of cancer. A 14-year study of 200,000 postmenopausal women concluded that “those [women] who consumed at least one alcoholic beverage a day showed almost a 30% increase in breast cancer rates in comparison to those who did not drink.” A 2007 WHO report analyzed 27 different studies and “found sufficient evidence to state that excessive alcohol use is the main cause of mouth, esophagus, liver, colon, mouth, rectum, and female breast cancers.”

Soda

Coke stroke cancer

These sweet caffeinated beverages have long been linked to weight gain, inflammation, and a host of other aliments. Consuming soda is also linked acid reflux disease. A recent study reported that soda consumers have a higher risk of stroke than non-soda consumers. Dark sodas gets its caramel coloring from a chemical 4-MeI, a known carcinogen.

GMOs

GMOs cancer

Store shelves are filled with foods that have been genetically modified (GMOs). GMO foods have been altered to resist glyphosate, a pesticide or have been modified to contain a neuro-toxin agent that kills bugs. While the FDA has not conducted enough studies to prove the safety of GMOs or its danger. independent testing has shown that GMOs can cause rapid tumor growth in lab rats. In addition, glyphosate has been linked to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and birth defects. Select foods that are certified organic since they do not contain GMOs.

Pickles

Pickles cancer

Eating pickles once in a while does not appear to have any negative health affects. However, eating pickled items on a regular basis has been associated to a 50% increased risk of getting gastric cancer, according to a 2014 research study. This may be why gastric cancer rates are more prevalent in Asian countries, where pickled foods have increased in popularity.

Diet and Low Fat Foods

artificial colors and sweeteners cancer

Packaging that states artificial coloring and sweeteners are loaded with chemicals. Food dyes, such as Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, and Red 3 that makes the packaged food more appealing, are deadly since contains carcinogens that are linked with cancer.

Buyer alert when seeing “fat-free”, “low-fat”, “diet”, or “sugar-free” food labels. These foods often substitute those missing ingredients with chemicals. These artificial flavors, colors, and sweeteners, artificial colors and flavors may be contaminated with carcinogens. Caramel coloring is not real caramel. It gets is brownish color from a chemical 4-MeI, a cancer causing agent. Choose the regular version of these foods.

Red Meat

Red meat cancer

Consuming red meat once in a while may not pose a health risk. However, a new study confirmed the theory that red meat increases cancer risks. The research study concluded that a sugar molecule, Neu5Gc, becomes part of a person’s cellular structure after eating red meat. Your body reacts to the sugar molecule and attacks it. This reaction increases inflammation and a higher risk of contracting cancer. Another study reported an increased rate in breast cancer in women who ate more red meat than their counterparts. On a brighter side, another health study recommended to eat grass fed organic beef since it contains “conjugated linoleic acis”, which has been reported to fight some cancers.
