Not only does milk do your body good it also makes a great face wash to remove makeup. Even if you cannot stomach dairy due to allergies, try rubbing milk on your face to see the clean results it brings. Soak a cotton ball in milk and then gently dab it on your face. If you have dry skin, use milk with a higher fat content. If you skin is oily, use skim milk. Rinse your face with water to remove.
The dairy family also includes yogurt to use as a facial cleanser and makeup remover. Leave a little in the yogurt cup from your afternoon snack and let it warm to room temperature. In the evening, use a cotton ball or your hands and massage the yogurt onto your face. Rinse with water and dab your face dry with a clean towel.
You know the benefits of cucumber slices to calm your eyes and it is also useful to remove makeup traces you thought were gone. Slice up a quarter of a cucumber into small pieces. Mix the pieces with water by hand, in a blender or food processor. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and swipe it across your face as you would a toner or astringent.
Another food to remove makeup, especially stubborn eye makeup, is an avocado. Cut the avocado in half and wipe off some of the avocado oil with a cotton swab or cotton ball. Gently apply the oil to your eyes, lips and face. Avoid getting the avocado oil, or any of the other oils, in your eyes as it may temporarily blur your vision. Wipe away makeup using a clean tissue. Avocados do not clog pores, so unless you have a specific allergy to the food, it should be safe to use on all skin types.
A banana mask is a wonderful remover of makeup that is deep down in your pores. If you wear heavy makeup and know the feeling of the build up on your face, mash up a banana and gently rub it on your face. Keep it on your face for approximately five minutes then rinse it away with warm water. You will feel the clean and smooth skin without layers of makeup.
Oatmeal offers a unique and affordable way to exfoliate and scrub your face to eliminate makeup. The easiest preparation is to soften 1 Tbs. of oatmeal in 3 Tbs. of water. Then, use a circular motion to massage the mixture into your face. Keep massaging for 1 to 2 minutes, then rinse away the oatmeal with warm water. Splash your face with cold water to close your pores. Oatmeal can also be mixed with bananas, milk, yogurt or oil to increase its effectiveness.
Baking soda is grainy and exfoliates deep down into your skin. Combine 1 tsp. of baking soda with warm water and rub the mixture in circles across your face to remove makeup and freshen your skin. Rinse the baking soda with warm water to move. On its own, baking soda is drying so moisturize your skin when you are finished. Or, combine baking soda with milk, yogurt or bananas to lessen the drying effects.
Mayonnaise is on the opposite end of the spectrum from baking soda. It provides cleansing and hydration to your skin and removes facial makeup. Warm up the mayonnaise by leaving 1 Tbs. out on the counter. Using your clean fingertips or a cotton ball, spread the mayonnaise on your face. Let it soak for 1 to 2 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.
If you still cook with shortening, or maybe you have a leftover canister tucked in the back of your cupboard, this product is highly effective at removing eye makeup. Gently rub a small amount of shortening across your eyelids and eyelashes. Using a clean tissue, wipe away the shortening and your makeup.
Scoop out a small amount and warm the oil between your fingers. Gently rub coconut oil on your face, eyelids and eyelashes, but avoid getting it in your eyes as it may momentarily blur your vision. It is wonderful on waterproof eye makeup as it breaks down these waterproof substances. Remove the oil with a clean tissue and watch your makeup disappear. Coconut oil may clog pores, so use with caution if you are prone to acne.
Dab a cotton ball in vegetable oil and gently rub the oil across your eyes. Wipe away the oil with a clean tissue to see fresh eyes that are moisturized.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Soak a cotton ball in olive oil and swipe it across your eyes. Then, use a tissue to remove your makeup. Olive oil is also used as a facial cleanser when it is combined with castor oil.
Combine 1/2 cup each of castor oil and olive oil into a glass jar. Use a clean wash cloth dipped in the mixture to wipe the oil across your face and eyes to eliminate makeup. Rinse the wash cloth and then use it to remove the oil from your face. If you have dry skin, increase the amount of olive oil. If you have oily skin, increase the amount of castor oil.
Scrub your face with sugar and warm water to exfoliate skin and remove deep down makeup build up. Sugar will not clog pores and helps to bring moisture to the top layer of the skin.
Crack an egg into a cup and whisk it. Apply the mixture to your face. Let it dry and then rinse off with warm water to remove stubborn makeup and maintain healthy skin.
