Nourish Your Hair
The next time you brew yourself a strong shot of espresso, make an extra cup to give your hair shine, silkiness and prevent breakage. Simply brew a shot of espresso, allow it to cool to room temperature, apply to dry hair and leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse well with lukewarm water.
Cellulite is unhealthy fats that are stored under the skin. As these fat deposits push against the connective tissues just beneath your skin, it creates the dimpled appearance on skin. Cellulite typically appears on hips, thighs, buttocks and breasts. The good news is, coffee contains properties that can temporarily eliminate the dimpled skin effect. Coffee boosts circulation, which increases the levels of fat burning enzymes and it produces a lipolytic effect, which helps to slip the area being treated. To make cellulite scrub, simply mix some used coffee grounds with your favorite lotion and massage into the affected area.
Varicose veins and spider veins are the dark, swollen veins that appear on the surface of skin, typically on the legs. Your veins carry blood from the heart to different parts of the body, but when the veins weaken they are unable to appropriately carry the blood, which causes blood to flow back and cause congestion. The area where congested occurs doesn’t get as much oxygen, which causes the blood to appear darker. One of the most common medical treatments to remove varicose veins is sclerotherapy, but you can significantly minimize their appearance without undergoing a medical procedure. Coffee acts as a vascular restricting agent, so it helps the blood to continue flowing correctly. Simply make a mask with used coffee grounds, rub on the affected area, let it sit for about 30 minutes and rinse well.
Coffee is a highly effective, natural exfoliate. Coffee grounds can be used as a inexpensive body scrub and/or exfoliate for your face. When applied to and massaged into your skin, the coffee grounds remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin smooth and glowing. To make your own exfoliate, simply mix about 1/3 cup of used coffee grounds with one egg white. Allow the mixture to set for about 10 minutes, lightly massage the mixture on your face, rinse well with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
Eliminate Dark Circles
Dark under-eye circles are are the result of the blood not flowing freely. This can happen due to a lack of sleep, poor diet, alcohol consumption and/or overwork. Using coffee for under-eye circles works in the same manner as it does for cellulite, in that it activates your blood circulation. To get rid of dark under-eye circles make a compress by placing used coffee grounds in a paper towel. Place the folded paper towel beneath your eyes or over closed eyelids for about five minutes.
If you have a terrible odor on your hands that seems impossible to remove, such as fish or onion, rub a few used coffee grounds between your hands, wash with soap and rinse. The coffee will neutralize the odors and as a bonus, your hands will feel silky smooth afterwards.
A coffee scrub can help you look younger by sloughing off the dead skin, tightening pores and toning skin. The caffeine in coffee provides a constricting effect on blood vessels, so a 15-minute scrub not only tightens pores, but reduces the redness as well. Simply mix used coffee grounds with your usual face cleanser and wash your face as you normally would.
Fight Premature Aging
Free radicals are substances produced in your body during the oxidation process that is carried out in mitochondria of cells. The formation of free radicals are caused by a number of things, such as pollution, eating an unhealthy diet, cigarette smoke and UV rays from the sun. When the DNA in your cells are attacked by free radicals it triggers dangerous cell mutations and damage to tissues, organs and cells, including the skin cells. When skin cells are damaged from free radicals it causes premature aging of the skin. Coffee contains flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants and your body needs antioxidants to fight free radicals. Drinking at least one cup of coffee a day will help you get a daily blast of antioxidants, which may prevent premature aging of your skin.
